[This post was back-dated, as a bout of brain-bad kept me from posting earlier in the week. Hopefully I can get caught up!]
Colour is one of our greatest expressions of ourselves when we choose to knit or crochet, so how do you choose what colours you buy and crochet or knit with. Have a look through your stash and see if there is a predominance of one colour. Do the same with your finished projects – do they match? Do you love a rainbow of bright hues, or more subdued tones. How much attention do you pay to the original colour that a garment is knit in when you see a pattern? Tell readers about your love or confusion over colour.
I think when it comes to me and colour, confusion is definitely the best word. I adore bright colours, but rarely wear them. I love pattern, but most of my clothes are plain. Saturated yarn always has me drooling, yet my stash has a predominance of muted tones. Not that I don’t have bright stuff as well.
It’s just that when it comes to actually wearing things, I’m more drawn to gentler shades and soft variegations. My most-worn items are like that. A grey hat.
A mottled blue shawl.
Even my pink cardigan is a strong pink rather than a bright one.
On the other hand, I really do love deeply saturated colours, particularly purples and blues. Any jewel tones really.
I’m definitely drawn to the blue/purple/red part of the colour wheel rather than the yellow/green side. Sad to say, I’ve never actually worn my lovely green Cassowary.
It’s a fabulous colour and a beautiful yarn, it’s just…not me. I’m fine with very soft, muted greens or green-blues, but true greens like this just don’t ping my brain in the same way.
I think really for me, that’s what colour comes down to. My heart melts when I see purples, aquas, pinks and silvers, but while I can admire the beauty of yellows and greens, they don’t go straight to my knees (or my wallet) the way the others do.
Out of interest, I did go through my stash, hauling it all out of the garage and laying it out on our king-size bed. I’m still not sure whether or not that was a good idea…
I do love the colours though, and those purples and pinks still make my heart melt. It was a heckuva job to lay it all out and pack it all away, but I did rediscover forgotten skeins, and was reminded all over again of some of the lovely things I’ve bought.
