Knitting and Crochet Blog Week: Day Four

Where are they now?
Whatever happened to your __________? Write about the fate of a past knitting project. Whether it be something that you crocheted or knitted for yourself or to give to another person. An item that lives with you or something which you sent off to charity.

It’s a funny thing, but until the beginning of this year, I didn’t actually have much of my own work. I love making things for other people, so almost everything I made was for someone else. This really came home when I taught my first class and could only find 3 things to bring with me as examples – I had to borrow something back from a friend to fill it out!

But oddly enough, something I made a while ago has come back to me recently.

I love this thing. It’s the cover for my netbook and was a very early project (pattern on Ravelry here). By about the middle of last year, the netbook itself had pretty much stopped working, the operating system and computer no longer talking to each other and neither talking to me. It went in the cover and in a drawer, where it sat and sat, lonely but never forgotten.

Then about a month ago, my husband found an operating system designed for old computers, and we managed to resurrect it. So the computer is back out and the cover is back out. I love having it, especially seeing people’s faces when they work out what it is. The security guards at the airport loved it last time I took it on holiday! Like my netbook, it feels a little elderly now, and the eyes haven’t stayed quite as even as they are in the picture above. There’s some stretching, some discolouration of the white, but in general, it’s held up pretty well. I’ll keep it for as long as I have the computer, and judging by how things are going now, that could be quite a while.

Sounds good to me.
