As you may have gathered by now, I like joining things. Show me a club, and I probably want to be a member. And Shannon over at luvinthemommyood has some of the best join-in stuff around. Despite not having any children, I love Shannon’s blog for her sense of fun, her honesty and her great eye for colour and craft. Head over there and check out her tutorials. I can wait.

I’d planned to take part in the stitch-along over the summer to make a sweater ready for winter. Then life got in the way and I bombed out. So I was definitely up for the Carefree Cowl-Along, and have already got going! I don’t have a blog-button for it yet, but I do have the beginnings of a cowl.
Remember yesterday I mentioned a mystery pattern that I got at Ally Pally? It’s for a little cowl with a moebius twist and a lovely stitch pattern. I’m working it with a 5mm hook and Fyberspates Scrumptious. Isn’t it scrummy?
I haven’t decided how wide to make it yet, but I bought myself another ball of this yarn in a lovely plummy-purple yesterday, so I’m thinking stripes. I also think I may have made this on a little small in circumference, so I might have to get some different yarn to make a bigger version. Oh. The Hardship. If I do make another, it’ll probably be in even chunkier yarn. I really, really noticed the short yardage on a ball of worsted, and liked it a lot. Lately I’ve been working in laceweight or sock yarn, and since my ball winder is still in pieces, I do it all by hand. I was so surprised when I got to the end of the skein! Hardly any time at all.
I hope to have my cowl done by the end of October, for reasons that will become obvious tomorrow š

That’s a really, really pretty pattern … and the yarn is gorgeous too. I think you probably need to make yourself a second cowl anyway – just to ring the changes through the winter! o on, you know you want to!!
I chose a lace-weight yarn for my latest project and it took ages to wind into balls (all evening in fact) and progress is slow with just a 3mm hook. Finding I can only work on it in good light which is proving to be a bit of a problem at the moment. Oh well!

It’s my favourite kind of pattern – repetitive enough to memorise, but varied enough that I don’t get bored. I’m thinking of making it in cotton next time, as there are moments when the wool in the Scrumptious makes me itch :S
Ooh, laceweight and 3mm hook is definitely hard going! You really do need good light and a lot of patience for that one!

Doris Chan is an amazing crochet designer. I kind of want to make everything from her book RIGHT NOW, but am promising myself that I won’t start anything else until the new year at least. Definitely recommend her patterns!

Your cowl is so pretty! I think the yarn looks fantastic. I was just looking at cowl patterns today, the wind is so chill already. Sigh. At least it gives me more reasons to knit (not that I need any).

That is a spectacular combination of yarn and pattern! It looks so good, I’d be tempted to wear it just as it is. Hope it doesn’t end up being too small, but if it is maybe it would make a good headband? Just a thought…
